Statement by Assemblymember David Alvarez on the Passing of AB 1887 FAFSA Deadline Extension:

“I commend Speaker Rivas and Assemblymember Cervantes for urging the extension of FAFSA. As the Chair of the Budget Subcommittee of Education Finance, my focus remains on ensuring that more California students receive the opportunity to access high-quality education without jeopardizing their financial future. The current deadline and latest figures on FAFSA completion rates demonstrate that recent changes to the format, intended to simplify the application process, have led to significant distress among students and families in California, resulting in many individuals being deemed ineligible despite circumstances beyond their control. ”
