From the Desk of Councilmember Alvarez

When San Diego High opened in 1882, fewer than 3,000 people lived in the City. It is the oldest school in the San Diego Unified School District and one of the oldest public schools in California — in fact, it is the oldest still located at its original site.

This month, a ballot proposal which would have required the disclosure of the City of San Diego’s public business conducted on private and personal devices of all City employees was defeated by the San Diego City Council.

What's Happening in District 8

December 2nd was an exciting day for the communities of the South Bay. After many years of advocacy and hard work we were able to break ground on the much anticipated Otay Mesa Road in San Ysidro. Ensuring a safe path of travel at this location has been a top priority for Councilmember Alvarez.

Since elected, the development of a new library in San Ysidro has been and continues to be a top priority of Councilmember Alvarez. Our current library in San Ysidro was built in 1924. While it has been a fixture for this neighborhood over the past 90 years, it is little more than 4,000 SQ FT and too small to serve the growing community of 30,000 residents.
