Nomination for the Human Relations Commission

I am pleased to recommend the appointment of Ms. Lorena Slomanson for the current vacancy on the City of San Diego's Human Relations Commission.

Ms. Slomanson is a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society of San Diego. Since 2009, she has managed the legal clinics at the Chula Vista Superior Court. She specializes in domestic violence, civil harassment restraining orders and evictions. In addition, Ms. Slomanson oversees community forums on landlord and tenant rights.

Ms. Slomansan's dedication to the community is exemplified by her involvement in numerous non-profits agencies. In 1998, the Jewish Family Services of San Diego's Refugee Resettlement Program assigned her to a family of recent Russian immigrant to help them adjust to life in the United States of America. She is the immediate Past President and current member of the Board of Directors of the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association. She is a board member of Thomas Jefferson School of Law Alumni Association, San Diego Bar Association, and an active member of MANA de San Diego.

At the University of California San Diego, she received a bachelor's degree in Russian and Soviet Studies and earned her Juris Doctorate at Thomas Jefferson School of Law. Ms. Slomanson is a native San Diegan and speaks Spanish, Russian, French and Italian.
