Amendment to the Park and Recreation Department Fee Schedule and Appropriate Recreation Council Revenues and Fees

October 24, 2017

A memorandum from the City Attorney dated September 8, 2017 raises concerns on the use and management of funds collected by Recreation Councils throughout the City. It is anticipated that an item titled "Amend the Park and Recreation Department Fee Schedule and Appropriate Recreation Council Revenues and Fees" will be docketed for City Council consideration on the week of October 30th. Ultimately, this item would change the process in which Recreation Councils manage their funds.

Several community members have contacted me to express concern over the proposed changes. As of now, community meetings have not been scheduled to inform residents of possible changes to Recreational Councils' revenues and fees. Given the impact this transition would bring, it is crucial that we keep our communities informed and involved. I would ask that you direct the Park and Recreation Department to host public meetings in both, Southern and Northern areas of my District, at locations and times that residents can attend and provide feedback regarding the proposed changes. Additionally, I believe that this item should be discussed by a Council Committee prior to being considered by the full Council. Holding additional public hearings on this matter will allow the public to participate and have a voice in how this policy is changed, which is critical to the success of any changes.

Thank you for your prompt response.
