Councilmember Alvarez’s Statement on Drastic Park & Recreation Fee Proposed Changes

October 31, 2017

SAN DIEGO (October 31, 2017) – The San Diego City Council today will hear Item 331 relating to amending Park and Recreation Department Revenue and Fees.  Councilmember Alvarez has issued the following statement on this item:

“Community members have been very clear about the lack of transparency in the proposed changes,” said Alvarez. “The Mayor’s proposal ruins the City’s relationship with our park and recreation volunteers. This proposal has been rushed through, bypassing Council Committee and ignoring the public.  I reiterate my call to listen to park volunteers and have public meetings to answer their questions.”

Last week Alvarez sent a memo to the Mayor requesting public hearings on this matter.
