WHAT: San Diego Councilmember David Alvarez (District 8) will be having a press conference this Wednesday, August 31 at 9:30AM to promote solar electric systems for low-income home owners in District 8. His goal is to have 50 homes installed in his district within a calendar year.
GRID Alternatives, a non-profit solar provider located in Barrio Logan, has received funding from the City of San Diego to install these solar panels. They train and lead teams of community volunteers and job trainees and work with community partners such as Urban Corps, Rebuilding Together, MAAC Project, Milholland Electric and San Diego Gas & Electric.
One of the homeowners of this installation is Hector Villegas, who is also volunteering with the solar panel installation. The house being installed is also on the property Councilmember Alvarez lived in growing up.
WHEN: Wednesday, August 31, 2011 9:30AM
WHERE: 2121 Newton Avenue, Barrio Logan (92113), in front of Villegas home.
