About David

Creating Opportunities for others

My parents came to the U.S. looking for an opportunity. My father was a farmworker in the agricultural labor program Bracero, and through hard work my mother and father created the opportunity for a better future for me and my siblings. Driven by my faith, values, and dedication to community, my work has been focused on providing others with opportunities to grow, prosper, and improve their lives. As a community organizer and a Councilmember, I fought passionately to create these opportunities. Like my parents, my family, and myself, everyone should have the opportunity to work hard and be able build a better future for San Diego.

Fighting for our communities

Over the past decade, we have fought for and brought many changes to San Diego. Whether I was fighting for new and improved park and library spaces across San Diego or fighting for a real solution to our housing crisis, I have been driven by the need to create opportunities for everyone.

Vision for the Future

During the past 10 years, we have achieved significant improvements, but there is still a lot of work to be done. By working together and by advocating for ourselves, we can make sure that our neighborhoods are not neglected or forgotten in the future.

About Me

David grew up in the Barrio Logan community of San Diego, the neighborhood on the working waterfront that has a long history of environmental degradation, high asthma rates, and industrial-residential conflicts. That experience shaped his resolve to fight for social, economic and environmental justice. David represented District 8 in the San Diego City Council from 2010 to 2018.
